National Save Your Photos Day

I love photography! In fact, all but two of our products are made with pictures that I've taken. Photography is more than a hobby though, and more than a business. My photographs are a collection of memories from my life, the places I've visited and the people I care about.  Two times already, I lost hundreds of pictures to broken phones! It's so frustrating, heartbreaking and yes, completely unnecessary. For National Save Your Photos Day, I wanted to write a blog with some tips about how to make sure you have these memories for yourself and for the generations that follow you! Definitely back up all your photos from your phone and computer on a cloud-based service! I use Google photos,...

It's National Mushroom Month!

It's National Mushroom Month, and even though we're very late, we made a tote to mark the occasion! Check it out here: https://alypicturedit.com/collections/totesandbags/products/mushroom-tote Some mushrooms glow in the dark, some are poisonous, and some may help treat cancer!  This fungus is also delicious and healthy! Mushrooms are full of water, vitamins and minerals! Portobello mushrooms are full of potassium! Mushrooms are also great for the environment. Mycologist, Paul Stamets, found that they can be used to clean up pollutants, such as oil and heavy metals. He has used them on his farm to clean up agricultural runoff. The uses for these amazing life forms seems endless!  The mushroom is actually the fruit of a much larger organism. The body itself is mycelium,...

Mindset and Exercise

Almost one year ago, I decided I really needed to kick it up a notch when it came to my health and fitness. I wanted more energy, a better immune system, and to make my body more capable of doing the things I wanted to do! I knew I would have to change a lot though and it'd take some work. At first, I made a schedule for every week to remind me when to lift weights, do yoga or go hiking. It worked at first, but if I wasn't in the room with it, I'd forget it existed. Out of sight, out of mind. So, I put it on my fridge, and I'm going to be honest, it's...

What's So Cool About Lichen?

Fungi is basically the coolest. They grow everywhere and in many different forms. My favorite fungi are mushrooms (delicious and super cute!), but that's a post for another day! Today, I want to talk about lichen.    Lichen can grow on rocks and trees. Even though they look like a single plant, they are actually a community of fungi and algae growing together in harmony.  That's called symbiosis. :)     That means that two or more organisms work together to survive. The fungi keeps the algae from drying out too much, which means it can live in places it normally couldn't, like on a rock in the desert.    The algae lives inside the filaments, which is the...

Grandfather Collection

My baby brother was born with down syndrome. He was an amazing person that always came up with unique ways of understanding the world around him. I always admired the way he could innocently come up with interesting ways to cope with, and explain the things that scared him. Or, to make magical, the things that I found mundane. He hated when it rained, and whenever the clouds rolled in, he would ask his grandfather to make the thunder and lightning stop. He'd go outside, in his over-sized plastic rain coat and yell at the sky, "grandfather, you stop it right now, rain!" He has since passed away, but his influence and love still lives inside the people he cared...
